UNESCO SITES IN TUSCANY

Tuscany, a special land where the culture and the heritage and history immense are the stars, a region as "a museum". In particular, UNESCO has declared seven places Tuscan world heritage site. 1. FLORENCE - HISTORIC CENTER

Since the Middle Ages and continuing through the centuries, Florence became the center of important creations of stunning artistic and architectural sites, who have taught around the world. The majesty of the city is given by the grandeur of works such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Church of Santa Croce, Palazzo degli Uffizi, the works of artists such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo. Florence is Unesco Site from 1982.

 

2. PISA - THE CATHEDRAL SQUARE

The square is known throughout the world as the Field of Miracles, is the architectural perfection of the Pisan Romanesque style, a combination of classical motifs, early Christian, Lombard and Oriental. The monuments here overlook, the Cathedral, the Bell Tower, the Baptistry and the Camposanto, have a beauty that leave viewers breathless. Pisa is Unesco Site from 1987.

3. SIENA - HISTORIC CENTER

The city, with its monuments and medieval Gothic style, it is the greatest testimony of the high modes of expression achieved by its artists. Masterpiece of the old town is the Piazza del Campo, known for its fan shape and venue of the famous Palio between districts. Walking through the streets of downtown seems to relive a bygone era. Siena is Unesco Site from 1995.

 

4. PIENZA - OLD TOWN

From medieval village in monumental center, at the behest of Pope Pius II, the center has become a symbol of architectural perfection and Renaissance. City idale that responds to the humanistic thought of the period, spaces and scenes of striking beauty thanks to the work of Alberti and his collaborator Rossellino. Pienza is Unesco Site from 1996.

 

5. SAN GIMIGNANO - OLD TOWN

The beautiful historic village in the province of Siena owes its fame to the towers that compose it. Art, architecture and history come together and create an elegant and solemn. The richness of the place is reflected in its food culture: the traditional Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a symbol of excellence and quality. San Gimignano is Unesco Site from 1990.

6. VAL D'ORCIA

A unique landscape, flat limestone plains from which they get rolling hills. A place where nature is in harmony with man, a close relationship from which they were born innovative agricultural landscapes and the Via Francigena, on which stand abbeys, historic towns and sanctuaries. Val d'Orcia is Unesco Site from 2004.

 

7. MEDICI VILLAS AND GARDENS

Twelve Medici villas and two pleasure gardens (Boboli Gardens and Pratolino Park-Villa Demidoff) were granted World Heritage status by UNESCO. Medici Villas and Gardens is Unesco Site from 2013.
