SANSEPOLCRO, THE CITY OF PIER DELLA FRANCESCA AND LUCA PACIOLI

Sansepolcro - Piero della Francesca

(51 Km - 52 min) Sansepolcro was the birthplace of the painters Piero della Francesca, Raffaellino del Colle and Angiolo Tricca. It was also the birthplace of the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli.

The main center of the Tuscan Tiber Valley , boasts a fine old town , enclosed by walls bordered by gunboats and an imposing Medici Fortress (1350 ) . On the main square ( Piazza Torre di Berta ) , with the Palazzo Pichi ( XVI century ) and the Palazzo Giovagnoli ( XIII century ) ; a short distance we find the Duomo , the Cathedral in Romanesque-Gothic style with a large rose window . To the left of Duono are the Palazzo delle Laudi ( 1595) , the Praetorian Palace ( XIV century , former seat of the Florentine government ) and the Municipal Art Gallery . It houses various works of Piero della Francesca , including the famous Resurrection . In the historical center of Sansepolcro it is held every second Sunday of September, the Crossbow , ancient and evocative event folcroristica costume . The city is home to major textile manufacturing and food ( Buitoni brand , known worldwide , is set directly in Sansepolcro ) .
